The College Citizens Academy is an open opportunity for students to share their thoughts and changes they would like to see in their police department.
The LMPD Citizens College Academy is geared towards young adult college students who want to know more about the functions of the police department. This academy’s capacity is 35 students and majoring in Criminal Justice is not a prerequisite to participate.
The duration of this program is six weeks, wherein students will meet once a week for three hours in the evenings. In these sessions, the students will learn about different aspects of the police department. The students will also have the option to ride along with an officer and participate in F.A.T.S. training, a simulated screen with scenarios in which the participants must make a quick decision on what action to take.
There will be an additional meeting to conclude the program, which will consist of a celebration to acknowledge the students’ achievement of completion. Moreover, the students will receive a $600.00 stipend, $100.00 per week for participating. They must attend all six weeks.
