Appointment can be made Monday through Friday – 7:30 am to 5:30 pm
Location
The Property Room is a four story red brick building, across from McFerran Elementary School. You must enter the gated property from Industry Road. Upon entering the parking lot, the building is on the left. The entry door is located between the two buildings. Once inside, walk straight ahead to the Property Room glass door that says "Public Entrance."
Hours
The Property Room is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The Property Room is closed on weekends and on all holidays. Please ensure that you allow enough time to process your property request.
Active Evidence
Even if the officer releases some property from a case, other property could still be held as evidence. If your property is being held as evidence, you will need to have the officer give written authorization to the Property Room to release your property or you may try to obtain a court order stating that your property can be released. Property Room personnel have no control over when an item gets released by an officer.
Firearms
A background check must be completed on ANYONE obtaining a firearm, including those with a Conceal and Carry Deadly Weapons (CCDW) permit. Background checks can take up to three hours to complete. Ammunition is not released on the same day that the firearm is returned.
Found Property
If you call to find out if your lost property has been turned in to the Property Room, you will need to give detailed information about the item. In order for Property Room personnel to conduct a search, you must provide such things as the serial number, make, model, description, and if possible, the date when the item was lost and the area where it was lost. If Property Room personnel believe there is a match for your lost property, you will be given the contact information for the case officer. The officer will need to release this property to you after determining that the property is yours.
Medication
An appointment with a LMPD Drug Vault Technician is required to pick up any medication. Appointments can be made by emailing the Drug Vault Technician or calling 502-574-2331. The Drug Vault Technician will notify you of a time when the medication can be picked up.
Money
Cash is not kept on site. Instead, you will sign a cash voucher. The Louisville Metro Finance Office will mail you a check within 10 to 15 working days. Property Room personnel do not know when the Finance Office will issue your check.
